GROUP OF YOUTH GO WITHOUT TO WALK IN SOMEONE ELSE'S SHOES

By Erin Cox

A group of students in Bristol, CT have decided to give up their cell phones and meals for a day to see what it is like to walk in someone's shoes who is much less fortunate.

The group of teenagers that voluntarily chose to fast and give up their phones had arrived early for mass at Saint Joseph Church in Bristol.

the movement is called the Hunger for Change Retreat. It is a charity in which all benefits received will go towards Haiti relief efforts.

After the morning prayers, the teens gave up their cell-phones. Some wondered what the day would be like.

"I don't know," said Diane Tovar of Bristol.

"It is going to be hard, but its good because I'm not doing it for like no reason, I'm doing it for a good reason," said Jaydiane Diaz of Bristol.

The middle-schoolers continued fasting as they were informed about youngsters their age in earthquake ravaged Haiti. Knowing so many children in Haiti are living in poverty and go days without eating brought meaning to the Hunger for Change Retreat.

"I think it will be difficult at first, I'll think of the kids that don't' have much food, and I'll be like oh wow this is what they do," said Sienna Stickney of Bristol.
