VOLUNTEER FINDS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AT STORE AND RETURNS IT

By Brian Carlson

What would you do if you found thousands of dollars stuffed in a shoe at a clothing store? Would you keep it? That's exactly what happened to a Provo man, and he turned it in.

You can find a lot of things in a shoe department, but rarely does that include a big wad of cash.

On Monday Steffen Bronson was volunteering at the Deseret Industries in Provo. He said he was straightening some shoes when he noticed one of them was stuffed with several thousand dollars.

"My first thought was wow! This is a lot of money. I could do a lot of things with that money," said Steffen Bronson, volunteer.

After considering his options, he made a decision. Bronson didn't have to tell anyone he found it, he could've easily kept it, but instead chose to be honest and turn it in."

"I’ve lost money before and it was actually turned in, and I was given the money back, and I thought that person, whoever it is, deserves the same courtesy," said Bronson.

Provo police said they're baffled by it.

"We typically do reports on people stealing money and in this we actually did a report on someone giving money back, it doesn’t happen very often," said Sgt. Matt Siufanua, Provo Police Dept.

Bronson said he didn't do it for attention. In fact our interview made him a little uncomfortable. He credits his choice on a higher power.

"It occurred to me, I was prompted to take it to the management, it would be the right thing to do," said Bronson.

He hopes anyone else would do the same, if the shoe were on the other foot.
